I have a question for you
My wife often sunbathes with her legs apart and enjoys the reaction she gets when men walk by and look at her in all her glory
Do you think she is a bit of an exhibitionist or is this normal behaviour for a woman in this setting?

As naturists/nudists we should look at ALL body parts on an equal footing!! Not pidgeon-holing them into, as the textiles do, "private", and as I like to say, also into "public", "semi-public" and "semi-private" parts!!! LOL!!! When one is totally naked, all body parts are "public"!! So no, she is not really an "exhibitionist"!! Also, if we so chose, all body parts can be erotic, sensual and sexual, if the conditions and setting are right, in the right environment, in the right place, at the right time, with right person or persons, etc.!! Sunbathing on the beach do not meet any of those criteria!!
When it comes to being totally naked as nudists both male and female should be looked upon on an equal basis. As far as exhibiting ones nakedness dont we all do that the moment we remove all our clothes when in proximity to others who may see us naked.
Ive had a discussion about some of the photos about how some of the ladies sit. She looked at them with the eye on how she is sitting inappropriately. I looked at the same photos and said she looks like she is comfortable. The conversation continued and I further explained that it looks like that is how I have seen fully clothed ladies sit doing the same activity. To bring this to the current topic, a nudist lady tanning on the beach gives no further thought to her legs spread enough to get some sun than a lady in a suit. To me, that is a measure of how comfortable she truly is being naked in front of others. Now the enjoyment she gets from the others noticing is another topic.
If she enjoys the reaction of others then I'd see that as a little exhibitionist but have no problem with it. As a male who has everything on display in most nude circumstances, I'm happy to be looked at and an acknowledging smile is all the better. Even if females are not on full display by default, I've no problem if they choose or just happen to be so.
An exhibitionist by definition is someone who deliberatly displays, exposes their genitals in a clothed setting, to shock people. In a naturist/nudist environment/setting this does not apply!! When everyone is nude there is no shock value present.
I'm feeling a little torn about this situation, knowing that at a nude beach or any place where social nudity prevails, we should be allowing people to sit and gather sun in most any position they choose. With that in mind, there are positions that would likely incite longer stares and possible gawks from the less-experienced.
To personalize this comment, I would appreciate the ability to put a fat pillow under my crotch when tanning on my front side because of the rather comical tan lines which invariably occur due to the way my butt cheeks rest in a fully flat position. If I could arch my bum up there, I would then avoid the dread shadow that keeps me from that elusive, full-moon tan! Unfortunately, I cannot 'pillow-up' because if I did so in the bare public, it would raise my rump up suggestively, and that may be misconstrued as something like an invitation to the more male to male driven libidos on the pool deck. I'm not there to make a fuss around the pool, and don't want to draw that kind of attention (I'm nearly married), so instead I do suffer the embarrassment I get on the uncommon occasion where I use a mirror to assess my posterior tan and I see those annoying white areas.
A woman with her legs open wide enough to get the sun into all the places that would otherwise remain untanned does run the possible risk of giving the wrong message to passersby. But I feel as though I must give them a pass in such a situation. Who am I to tell them how they achieve the best sun coverage? There must be a give and take at some point. Judgementalism is something to stay far away from when it comes to anything involving nudism, so I say let them spread ~ but please be reasonable as to how far it goes.
