I never considered myself a gardner, farmer or horticulturalist. However, with a shrinking personal budget, the lack of privacy from textiled neighbors and the need for technology free space, I built a 70 square foot green house garden with a little more than $60.00 US. I reclaimed the 2x4's from old fence posting, the PVC pipes from an old sprinkler system and some added stuff that I had left over from previous projects. The most costly was the soil that I purchased from a local home repair store. It was not fancy, it was not pretty. It was functional - it allowed me to be nude in near full sun beginning in January all the way through October. I would have kept that green house longer had I not upgraded the 1100 sqft home to a 3000 sqft.
Results: My two main crops were jalepeno peppers and basil. Both plants dug into the soil and produced large crops. In fact, they took over both sides of the GH.
If you're looking to put up a greenhouse, I can help with suggestions for plans and layouts. I do have an aquaponic system that I will be adding to GH#2.
We have a short 93 day growing season here so greenhouses add a huge amount of output. I get 4 to 6 weeks on both the beginning and end of the season. An added bonus is the ability to go out and sunbathe naked when there is still snow on the ground.
I built this raised flower bed and put a small pond in it, have veggies and flowers growing all over, you can see my banana pepper in the left corner of the bed! This the front of my house...I have to have raised beds due to too hard clay as my soil. adding more photos of my 2015 garden... 2016 garden was a bust no pictures, have to upload my 2017 pictures of my small garden to my computer
