Neither rain, nor sleet, nor dark of night....

For fellow American's you will recognize the above as our post office's motto. But I did find something that will stop the courier from his appointed rounds. Skin.

Yesterday when i fetched the mail, I found a note saying he was unable to deliver a letter because it required a signature. I was at home when he had gone by. Car in the driveway and doors open. So later in the afternoon I went to the post office to sign for the letter. The clerk got it from the back room and handed it to me. I asked her why the carrier had not delivered with the rest of the mail, adding I had been at home.
She had him come out so I asked him. He said " I have seen you walking around your yard with hardly anything on, and yes it is a free country you can do what you want... " then trailed off. I said " okay " and left. I did not feel like making a scene.

Thoughts ?

I guess I have to respect that his right to not be in that situation is just as important as mine to go nude at home.

It sounds to me like hes shirking his duties. You were not totally nude, and unless you had previously made sexual advances to him, which I doubt, he should have rang your doorbell and done his job correctly. He definitely has some issues that he needs to deal with.

I'd have thought mail carriers would experience situations like that from time to time and just deal with them. I'm sad that he was bothered by your state of undress, but I guess I can respect his prudishness?

TOTALLY RIDICULOUS AND IRRESPONSIBLE US POSTAL SERVICE EMPLOYEE!

There is no law restrictions regarding being nude at home in the USA, particularly in your state. We have become a nation of self righteous, bigot, complainers whom feel it's acceptable to not perform occupational duties simply because they don't agree, understand or tolerate another persons lifestyle. In this case, the nudist lifestyle and the failure to accept and respect the nudist right to be nude at home.

my local postal workers have brought things to my door many times. We have a sign on our driveway advising it's a clothing optional home, and that visitors may see nudity. Never had to go to post office to sign anything

Im gonna give just enough benefit of the doubt to say that he never intended to deliver the package first-hand since it required a signature. Your preferred state of (un)dress was just used as what he thought might be a convenient scapegoat for him to avoid going through the interruption to his routine the signature process would require. He likely had the note prepped before beginning his rounds.

Once upon a time, UPS knocked on my door for delivery, and all I had to do was take about 3 steps to the door. When I opened it, the driver was already getting back on the truck with a note on my door stating they had attempted delivery but no one was home, so they were leaving the package at my apartment complex office. Clearly, the driver just played the odds that, at the very least, by the time I answered they could make a believable case that they had waited long enough without an answer, not expecting me to be right around the corner from the door.

The driver seemed very put out that I had opened the door so quickly, expected delivery, addressed their concern over my dog (a dachshund that I scooped up) and not being able to sign for delivery holding the dog (I switched hands).

And this was without me being nude impacting in any way.

The engineer in me thought it through. I have a curbside mailbox. I was clearly home, door wide open, car in the driveway. He could have honked his horn and I would have gladly gone out ( with something on since i am going curbside) and signed for it without him even
having to leave his vehicle. All this talk of going green goes out the window when i had to drive 9 miles total to get something that had been 50ft from my door.

The problem of ring-and-run was endemic with mail contractors in Australia for a while but it seems better now.

I understand they were being paid per delivery but got an extra payment for an unanswered delivery that required a calling card and returning the parcel to the mail distribution centre. You had to be right behind the door to catch them!

Presumably the incentives have been adjusted to improve the results...

Well as a nudist, I prefer to be completely nude at all times in my home and when I answer the door, I am usually nude - my friends, singles and couples who mostly are not nudist expect to find me nude when they visit and they are fine with that. The postman has a job to do and it is sad when someone in this situation refuses to accept the right of another to be a nudist especially in their own home. I would probably have pursued my complaint with the letter carrier and demanded to know his basis for not delivering your mail for signature.
