Advising middle aged?

Return to Discussions

Fifty six years old here, too old to be young and too young to be considered old, depending on your perspective. But I cant deny Im aging and hope to do so gracefully. Whats your those who are younger and older - piece of sound, grounded advice to me?

62 here. I struggle a bit with being this age. Here's what helps:
- Be honest with yourself about how it feels to be your age, and make an effort not to dwell on any negatives (and cut yourself some slack if you do). We live in a youth-obsessed culture, and that's tough on people who aren't young, even if you're in excellent shape.
- Strive to be comfortable in your skin. Your ease puts others at ease, no matter what kind of shape you're in.
- Forgive those who can't see past your age. It feels lousy to carry around resentment about what you can't change in others.

This an interesting topic. Thanks for posting.

Don't stop moving. Walking, reaching, bending or running if you are a runner. Or chopping wood if you chop wood. Or welding if you are a welder. Keep busy. I see too many people retire and then sit in a recliner forever. We all will have to slow down, but slow down slower if that makes sense.

Thanks, good points! I realize that some people write me off as irrelevant since I'm 20+ years older. Worse yet, I write off some people because they're 20+ years older. I'd like to think it's their attitude and not their age I'm not responding to, but I can prejudge like the any one else.

As soon as I retired, aged 65, I threw myself into doing all the big jobs I was too busy to do when I was working twelve-hour shifts. I started with the kitchen and rebuilt it. Then there was the garden. I took the rockery apart and remodeled it completely. Now I'm 71 and I'm still keeping busy (my wife makes sure of that). I have a nudist friend who is ten years older than me, and he is still virile! Enjoy life, and keep on keeping on!

Very interesting to read this thread, as someone who is just about to approach "middle age."

So true , the key I agree is to stay active. I enjoy going to the gym and pool for couple of hours mon, wed, and fri. Home projects the other days. My biggest problem is stamina is not what it use to be. But understand and accept that. You just have to adjust. But I do enjoy a nap after lunch. I get everything done before lunch and then take it easy. Enjoy , Dan

I don't feel qualified to give advice, but I'm happy to share a few things I've learned along the way to age 66. Don't waste time with resentments and bad feelings, free yourself to move forward. Be willing to try new things and new ideas. Forgive yourself for your mistakes. Let go of toxic people or situations. You don't get to choose what challenges and disappointments come along, but you will discover you have more strength than you realize. When things are at their worst you will be let down by some you thought you could count on...but others you never imagined will step up and support you. Take time to relax and recharge...for example some good naked time. Finally make wonderful memories. Best regards.

RE:Advising middle aged?

I just turned the big 60 a few days ago, and I have never felt better in my life. Like others have posted, keep busy and keep a positive look on life. I just ran a 5k nude fun run and I do it at least six times a year. I was a runner in high school but I now enjoy doing it. I do go to the gym, workout, swim. My health is the most important thing in life as it will dictate what you can and can not do. In the so call middle age range, most are of mind set, "I've got time". Then they hit the 50s/60s and realize they missed the boat. Start now and you'll pay the dividends as you mature into those golden years. Besides, have a great physique, which does make you stand out in a crowed, you will be able to do things that the average guy won't be able to do who is the same age as you. Positive things will come your way and that just is as rewarding as the advise you give to guys that want to know how you did it. Key is attitude, there is nothing you can't do, for the most part, if you set your mind to do it, you'll find a way.

Great topic my friend stoneandy! "Too old to be young and too young to be old"... Wow that nails it! Appreciate you guys who shared your thoughts plus I'm glad polomexx read this and recognizes that hes about to hit a different mental ( and likely a little physical) part of his life... starting with reading glasses! LOL

My advice is to continue breathing, do so with awareness; to accept life and it's dance through time; relax, don't do it, when you want to cum do it.

Reminds me of a line from a Neil Young song. "Too young to repaint, too old to sell."
