Condo facing the court yard

Return to Discussions

My wife and I recently started renting a condo. Or previous few places had balconies with solid walls, so all the neighbors saw was a shirtless man. Now it is not so easy. The balcony has bars instead of a wall and the suites are relatively close together. Also, we are in direct view of the courtyard. The last thing I want to is upset the neighbors, let alone the strata council. Any ideas? I thought of hanging a blanket over the rail but that violates strata bylaws.
I attached a picture of the balcony. It is not very good. I will replace it later.

If the fencing is high enough, you could put a blanket or towels over it.

Great idea, unfortunately the strata council rules prohibit hanging things on the balcony rail.

Lowes and Home Depot have lots of screening options. The easiest would be one of the fabric ones that you attach to the railings with zip ties or something. (But sounds like that isn't an option) Another may be a free standing screen that looks like a dressing screen. That would likely follow the letter of the rules but not the spirit and upset the powers that be. What you may want to consider are some rectangular planting pots along the length of the railing with evergreen plants roughly that wide that block outside views.

Hope this gives you some ideas.
