Moderation of the forums

After seeing the forums degenerating into nothing but name calling and bickering, I’ve decided to integrate flagging into the system. Users can now flag posts and over the next few days I’ll be analyzing the data and writing a method to automatically remove the flagged posts and topics. This should help with the SPAM as well as the flame-wars.

When using the forums, please follow the following rules.
1. Be polite, even during controversial topics, name calling is not necessary or constructive.
2. No promoting products or services on the forum.
3. Please keep the forum non-sexual. No erotic stories or topics.
4. Please do not respond to insulting or rude comments, these only prolong the degeneration of the
forum. Flag the comment and continue the discussion as if it had not happened.

If anyone has questions or comments, please use the forum topic below to discuss them.

You Have to Be This Old to Enter

If you’ve ever visited a clothing-optional resort community, you may have noticed that there are a large number of people there in their golden years. It seems that retirement helped them to lose their inhibitions and they high-tailed it, en masse, to the local nudist gathering. Certainly, there’s nothing wrong with finding the freedom to be around others in your birthday suit, but when the majority of nudists are 55+, does that mean that the younger crowd is left out in the cold?

Although, in theory, nudism is a family-friendly activity for young and old, in practice, it may be a different experience.

Whether clothed or naked, there is a generational difference in our approach to life, especially when looking at 20s and 30s vs. 50s and 60s. The younger group may be seen as loud and disrespectful, whereas the older folks may appear to youth as stodgy and not fun. It can be a dilemma, especially for the community organizers who want to plan events that appeal to all visitors.

What has your experience been in the clothing-optional lifestyle? Do you feel too old or too young for some events? Have you ever experienced a feeling of ageism? Chime in below in the comments!

TrueNudists.com Reaches 150,000 Users

Social Media Site Realizes 50% Growth in One Year

August 14, 2012 (Phoenix, Ariz.) — New websites are launched daily, and the world is always looking for the next big thing in social media sites. TrueNudists.com, a site designed for naturists, nudists, and those involved in the textile-free lifestyle to connect and interact, may be that site. The site grew from 0 to 100,000 in three years, but it only took another flip of the calendar to move it up to 150,000.

Like other social media sites, TrueNudists.com enables members to create a personalized profile page, post pictures and status updates, and host meetings with friends through the site. A basic free membership gives users access to the majority of the site’s offerings, while a paid membership unlocks more features. Strict privacy settings allow members to block their profiles and usage statistics from search engines, if they choose.

After reaching 100,000 members last August, TrueNudists.com was upgraded to offer additional functionality and privacy for its members. As it continues to grow exponentially, the site’s creator is taking action to ensure the content remains clean and focused on naturist activities. The site is constantly monitored to identify those who are using it inappropriately. “We want the site to be a safe haven for nudists and naturists to virtually ‘hang out’ and chat with others in the lifestyle. What TrueNudists.com is not is a pornographic site. These new upgrades allow us to quickly find and remove members who are using the site in such a manner,” shared the site’s creator.

Based on feedback from members, new features are added regularly. TrueNudists.com also hosts meetings at clothing-optional resorts to get members together. While the site may be a place to virtually meet other nudists, the whole idea is to share naturist activities. These hosted events allow that to happen.

Members of TrueNudists.com are located across the US and around the world. Often, US members use the site to find naturist-friendly locations to visit when traveling abroad. The site offers a location section that showcases resorts and other events across the globe. And since members are sprinkled near and far, it’s as easy as a mouse click to schedule small-group gatherings wherever members may find themselves.

TrueNudists.com is for everyone: singles, couples, families, young, and old. Nudism is widely enjoyed by people from all walks of life, and the site offers a way to meet others when the topic doesn’t come up easily around the work water cooler.

“We’re looking forward to expanding our presence around the world and continuing to be THE go-to social media site for nudists and naturists,” shared the site’s creator.

Where did the AANR logo go?

Where did the AANR logo go?

Well it’s been an interesting ride, at first we were accepted into their “Trusted Website” program.
Our application was approved and we were provided the “Trusted Seal”. After just a few days of
a few of the “trustees of the board” complained and required us to remove it. I know that one of
our smaller competitors is friends with a lot of the people in AANR and in my opinion believe
this may have influenced this decision.

I was denied a reason for the dismissal and even a contact to discuss the matter with, until I
threatened to notify my user base about the dismissal. I was contacted today by Jim Smock, AANR Executive
Director, who told me the reason for the dismissal was because there were some pictures that he found
that could be construed as provacative. There is always a challenge to keep the site clean, and I believe
we do a pretty good job at moderating and removing these pictures, but without completely removing the
pictures it’s not possible to notice every misplaced hand. That said, I was happy to have at least been
acknowledged and given a reason for the dismissal.

The problem that haunts me after this, is not that our site does not conform to AANR’s definition of nudism.
It’s that sites that face the same issues as us are allowed. It seems rather fishy to me that my competitors
who have the same difficulty as us in moderating pictures are allowed into the “Trusted Website” program.
Our site has the most advanced moderation techniques, every single picture is seen by a moderator, and
users have the ability to flag anything that sneaks through, our competitors do not. When I asked how this was
possible, I was told it was not something that could be discussed. I’m not going to persue this any further.
We’ve already been denied a chance to advertise with AANR in January, now the trusted website fees, and
they’ve already lost these 2 members, I hope that the money that they’re turning down is for the right reason,
and not just a friendly favor to our competitor.

What are your thoughts on the matter?

Site Upgrade! New features are available.

Hello Everyone,

There are some new features to the site that we are excited about:

“My Visits” is now back and available on profiles.  Users can add to their profile the nudist venues they will be visiting in the future.  This makes it easier to set up meet-ups at nudist spots.

Users can now manage their preferences in the updates feed.  You  can manage what shows up and what does not in the feed.   Also, now when users upload videos it shows up in the feed, as do Group discussions and topics! (This was requested heavily)

Speaking of groups, they are now sorted by activity level.  The more active groups are sorted at the top.   This gives a quick snapshot of what people are participating in.

When users search for other users it now defaults to the advanced search to make it easier to find nudists in your area.

Finally, you can gift subscriptions to other users if you are feeling generous, or want to get that special someone active on the site.

Enjoy the new features!

Social Networking for Nudists?

True Nudists Provides a Safe Online Meeting Place for Those Who Shun Clothing

We come into the world without clothes, but we’re quickly bundled up and tend to stay wrapped in clothes for the majority of our lives. However, for a growing number of Americans, nudism is becoming an accepted state of being. Clothing-optional pool parties abound, and many states have dedicated resorts for those in the naturist lifestyle. Since 2007, one company, True Nudists, has provided nudists with an online community to build relationships. In 2011, the site has undergone a major overhaul to provide even more services to its more than 100,000 users.

Much like other social networking sites, True Nudists provides an online platform for users to join together and expand their networks. Membership is free and allows users to post a profile complete with a bio and pictures. They can also post events and reach out to new people through the site. A location section helps members find clothing-optional resorts around the globe to visit when planning vacations.

Since privacy in the online world is so important, True Nudists’ upgrade also adds enhanced security. Members are now able to block other users, hide profiles and pictures, and ensure that they are not searchable online.

The site was designed to target a younger generation, provide a meeting place for nudists, and support a growing trend in the US and around the world. Of course, the concept of nudism is not a new one. According to Wikipedia, the first naturist club was established in British India in 1891, but the movement didn’t gain much traction until authors and supporters began evangelizing the ideals in the early 1900s. Although it’s difficult to find true numbers of how many people around the world consider themselves nudists, the idea has long been accepted in Western Europe and continues to build more followers in the United States.

More than just not wearing clothes, nudists gather together for parties and events—with their families in tow. True Nudists gives these outgoing folks a medium for connecting, either in their own hometown or across the globe. Whether for adults only or a family-friendly environment, members can find likeminded friends with whom to shun those textiles.

The upgrades to the True Nudists website took effect September 28th, 2011. You can visit the site at www.truenudists.com to create a profile.

True Nudists Reaches 100,000 Users!

Social Networking Site for the Clothing Optional Crowd Marks Milestone in 3 years

When True Nudists was launched in 2008, the goal was to provide a site for nudists and naturists to connect with each other. Since then, more than 100,000 people who prefer to skip the textiles have joined the online social network.

True Nudists offers members the ability to create an online profile, meet new friends, and even plan parties and vacations. With a free membership, users can access the site, allowing them to share information and pictures as well as learn about other like-minded individuals. The upcoming site also offers members enhanced privacy options. Understandably, some members don’t want to let the world know how they spend their off time.

Using the locations section of the site, members can plan their vacations around clothing-optional resorts and even attend events while away from home. Members span the US and the world, meeting each other to enjoy family-friendly events at homes and other locations.

Nudism is certainly not a new concept, and it is gaining acceptance around the globe. One reason for moving into the online world with this site was to attract a younger generation that might be new to the lifestyle.

Meeting the 100,000-member mark coincides with upcoming upgrades to the website. The upgrades increased functionality and privacy while retaining all of the features long-time users have come to enjoy.
