I am curious, how many guys in here have no issues being nude in the locker room, steam room, whirlpool with others? I have beguin to notice that most guys are covered up and freaked out is any part of their body shows. On the other hand, I notice that most the high school guys are running around the locker room naked as a jay bird.

Mar 31, 2010I think it also depends on the culture one was brought up in. The gym I use, many of the Asian guys are shy about exposing themselves, particularly the Indians. I don't know how things are in the women's locker room - they won't let me in there (
, LOL), but I assume it's a similar situation. Some people may also be unsure of what is "proper" etiquette. A former coworker (a Chinese woman) asked me if it was OK to go into the sauna naked, as she liked to do. I told her not only was it OK, but nude was the best way to use the sauna (and reminded her she just needed a towel or something to sit on for hygenic reasons). Unfortunately, our society still has the wrong view of nudity.

THE GYM I BELONG TO JUST POSTED A NOTICE FOR THE STEAM ROOM THAT YOU MUST BE COVERED. IN THE EARLY AM MOST GUYS
STILL GO IN NAKED. THE SAUNA YOU CAN STILL SIT ON A TOWEL AND SHOWER FOR BOTH BEFORE GOING IN.ReaccionarResponder - MA

Jan 6, 2011I go to the FIRM in Minneapolis and most of the guys walk around naked - sauna naked - it really does not seem to be a big issue!

May 12, 2011I find that is is funny how we men like to be all bad to the bone. But when it comes to being seen or seeing other men nude we freak. Well the non-nudist do. I have no problem walking around the lockerroom without a towel.. So what. So they see me nude and smooth. That or they think that a 57 yr old is just amusing. But to me the funniest thing is that men want women to be in the smallest bikini or the smallest or least amount of clothing but we wear long trunks and a ton of threads. We must have something we are not proud of...lol. Anyway thats my two cents. Have a great day at the gym.

Jun 22, 2011
VERY TRUE! Guys have been in the military (Viet Nam or the Middle East) have no problem with casual male nudity, and neither do guys who had physical education classes in school growing up. We are in our 40s 50s and 60s. But guys who haven't been in the military or had P.E. classes are very shy about being seen naked. They are in their 20s and 30s. Plus they grew up in the "stranger danger" years, when their mommies warned them not to let anyone see their pee-pees, plus they have been traumatized by Abercrombie & Fitch models and the hypersexualization of porn on the Internet. This is good news about high school kids. Let's hope that they grow up to be "normal" and more carefree about casual male nudity.http://groups.yahoo.com/group/YMCAnaked
Thats very interesting. I always wondered why the young guys always cover themselves in the lockerroom with a towel and even go through the trouble of pulling their underwear on whyle their towel is wrapped around them. But the older guys (50s and 60s) strut around nude without a problem. I just thought that the younger guys are more self-counscious.ReaccionarResponder - TR
Aug 25, 2011It seems most guys at the gym and especially the pool I go to are very casual about being naked and don't think anything about standing around naked talking. The opposite is true with the guys on the high school swim team, they just about won't even get in the shower naked.

Aug 28, 2011I am in a Masters swim league and have been a swimmer for many years so what was said a couple of comments below seems correct. Swimmers who have been going in and out of locker rooms for many years have no qualms about being naked. Many seem to relish it and will stand around naked talking as long as time allows. The gym I go to is kind of the same, not as naked as swimmers but most guys over 30 don't mind bareing it all!

Dec 27, 2011I've been going to World Gym in Palm Springs for about 5 years now. It's the largest gym here with thousands of members, vast majority male. The entire locker room along with the steam and sauna are totally nude friendly. It's pretty much a clothing free zone. Guys feel comfortable being naked as they would at home so a line of guys shaving and grooming naked at the sink counter after a shower is common. It's also rare to find anyone wrapped in a towel in the sauna or steam room. There are both shower stalls and an open communal shower. Most prefer the group shower area where they can talk with each other. Of course the town I live in is very nude friendly, somewhat a mecca for nudists, which is why you don't see that many tan lines in the locker room. On another note I recently spent a few weeks in a major city in the south. I did a temp membership with a popular gym there. It was very strange to see the lengths guys there would go to in order to cover up while changing. They would never get completely naked always allowing their shirt tails or even wrapping a towel around their waist to cover their lower body when changing into gym shorts. The showers were designed for privacy and but still were never used. Most members avoided the locker room in all coming and going already dressed in gym clothes. Just seemed very odd to me that people could be so inhibited about nudity. Oh well.ReaccionarResponder - WA
Mar 26, 2012I visited a real nice Christian facility that had some gym type equipment and an indoor pool, sauna and jacuzzi. As the facility was used by both male and female, you had to wear a bathing suite in the last three areas. As it was a Christian facility there were no lockers in the changing room. It had the benches you typically see in a gym, an open gang shower for 8 people and urinals and enclosed toilets. I was surprised of how many went into the small toilet stalls to change the clothes. Many arrived with swim suites under the jeans or other pants. They go swimming, hottub, and sauna and then put their regular pants on over their wet swim suites. The last time I was there it was in the middle of winter. I am sure they experienced a cold walk to the car and a cold ass sitting on the cold seat in the car.
There were only a few benches but no crowds, so I was thankful that many changed in the toilet stalls as I spread my wet bathing suit, towel and sneakers on the same bench I was sitting.

Mar 26, 2012YMCA - When I was in the Navy there was a YMCA outside the Boston Navy Yard that had a indoor pool and sauna. Back then it was only for men and you were not allowed to use the pool or sauna with any chothing. When arriving they gave us clean towels. We were required to shower before using the facility. Me and my friends in the Navy had no problems about being naked. Actually you got over that issue during the first week of boot camp.
The nice benefit was you arrived, showered used the facility, showered again and returned the wet towel and left. There were many occasions where we were going out to dinner or to a bar and stopped there first. After using the facility we had no wet bathing suites or towels that required a return trip to the ship.

May 26, 2012
It is a total shame the way guys are afraid of showing their bodies or being seen in gyms today. At my gym it is normal to see a guy take off his street clothes and be wearing his gym clothes underneath. Even down to the shirt! I have also seen many guys shower in their swimming trunks or gym shorts at the local YMCA as well. I have no idea how they can sit in the sauna fully dressed but it doesn't stop me from sitting naked on my towel and relaxing the way you should be!
I agree! the whole point of the Y is to help boys grow up and be men-unashamed; but ever since women were allowed in its become more and more feminine and men are more and more scared to be men by being unashamed of their man bodies.
Hopefully every single person on this site and other nude venues will purposely be nude as much and as long as possible at their
local gym!ReaccionarResponder - RA

Jul 30, 2012Yea I've seen the guys at the Air Force gym I go to all covered up. And it's the guys who are in their 20-30s! I really think it's from the lack of PE class in high schools where you have to change in front of others, where you have no choice. I see guys do the towel dance all the time, trying to get in/out of the underwear. It's ridiculous. And it's not guys who are out of shape necessarily, it's even the ones who are muscular and built. Go figure... it's not a self-esteem issue, it's a "I can't be seen naked" issue. Really sad! :(ReaccionarResponder - JA

Jul 7, 2013
I can not think of a better place to be naked. I usually am naked most of the time. There are some that keep a towel on but the majority of the men are naked. Like a lot of the comments it is mostly the younger guys that wear towels. Great to be naked and hanging out with friends naked.
I've also read a lot of comments about younger guys not getting naked in locker rooms. What I have noticed though is younger guys have much less of an issue with posting full body nude photos or amateur sex videos online. When browsing craigs list or other hook-up sites the younger guys seem to post the most full body with face nude photos. Same with amateur video sites like x-tube, the younger guys have no issues uploading vids of themselves having sex with their buddies or who ever. I've seen many amateur group sex vids where you can see most all the young guys have their phones out videoing themselves in action to send to friends or post online. I think the 18-25 generation is becoming alienated from in person interaction outside of the internet making actual social interaction uncomfortable. On the internet you can control how a person sees you, in person you can't. Of course here I am myself posting on the internet along with a profile containing naked pictures. But at least I have no issues with locker room or in person nudity either.ReaccionarResponder - NU
Oct 16, 2013It is funny to see some guys younger and older at the gym I go to, that do the towel dance to get dressed after a shower. I have even seen a few guys even go into the stall to change. everyone has the same stuff, does not make sense to me why they do it but it is funny to see it. Also have seen guys wearing their swimsuits into the shower.ReaccionarResponder - MIMiembroDec 30, 2013I am a gym regular and my custom is to go nude in the locker room and shave nude after my shower. Some of the guys are quite shy about being nude but it takes all kinds. There are even some who when they dress go commando. I do that myself in the warmer months. It is nothing for me to stand there nude having a conversation with one of my friends, whether they are nude or not. No one ever seems to mind, I know I don't.ReaccionarResponder

Feb 4, 2014I'm like the only one (under 70y) that gets naked in my LA Fitness here in Miami... They look at me like I've just strolled out into the Gym nude.
The shower-towel-dance makes me laugh!
Just GO FORTH NAKED!ReaccionarResponder - SMMar 8, 2014I have no problem being naked amongst others, in many gyms I've been to, you have no choice. The university I went to had the old gang style showers, so you would hang up your towel and walk naked into the shower area amongst your friends. Most modern gyms I've been to now have private cubicles, some even have private cubicles in the changing area!
Thinking back, I probably was a little shy at first, but I totally agree with the previous post, having open showers is a great way to get over any shyness you might have.ReaccionarResponder - PE

He almost fell over trying to take his undies off beneath his towel. I thought that is what people did on the beach, not in a locker room.
Also because while almost falling, he apparently show his genitals to a guy behind him and apologized to the guy for showing his genitals. The guy behind him said - and I quote "never been there". What the heck did that mean?ReaccionarResponder - MIMiembroSep 17, 2014
VERY TRUE! Have you ever seen an A&F quarterly publication? You habe to be 18 to buy it 95% of the models are nude. I'm not trying to argue I just don't see how that company fit in to your example along with stranger danger and mommy said hide your peepee. Lol.ReaccionarResponder
