Sex and Sexuality

Social Nudist, Sexual Nudist, or Both? Nudism is not MONOLITHIC.

Nudism is not monolithic. There are social nudists. There are sexual nudists. They are all nudists, regardless of AANR and British Naturism rules. To deny this is to deny reality. There are many venues and resorts that could care less about AANR rules and certification. The same nudist could be a social nudist at an AANR property one day and a week later could be a sexual nudist at a non-AANR venue. It is most arrogant for social nudists to declare only they are real nudists. Additionally, most people in the non-nudist world look upon all nudists as weirdos. If you do not want to participate in sexual nudism, then don't go to places where that is acceptable. At the same time, if one engages in sexual nudism at an AARP property, they will rightfully be expelled.

Most people reading this do not believe there is anything shameful about a naked human body - it is natural. Is sexuality any less natural? Regardless of whether or not you like it, nudists do not have one set of beliefs, perspectives and behavior standards that every nudist embraces.
Variety is the spice of life. Live and let live. Don't expect everybody to think like you do. Respect the choices of others as you want them to respect the choices you have made. COEXIST

There are nudist resorts and there are swingers resorts.

The people who conflate the two are the problem. This is the reality.

There are (social) nudists. There are (sexual) swingers. To deny this is to deny reality. It is most arrogant for swingers to go to public nude places (like beaches) claim they are just sexual nudists and behave inappropriately, and get the public nude places shut down for actual nudists. This is why we won't live and let live. Swingers need to respect the choices of others (nudists AND non-nudists). Keep the swinging to swinger resorts and there won't be any problems. But far too often this isn't what happens and when confronted, out comes the "I'm just a sexual nudist and you have to respect my choices". If you really want to swing somewhere in public, go to La Baie des Cochons (Pig Beach) at Cap d'Agde. Keep going at it when the police arrive and find out the hard way it is illegal there, too.

    Jeez,, it isn't complicated.
As I see it, there are only two categories of nudist: private and social. The private nudist enjoys the nudist lifestyle when alone but is not comfortable with others. The social nudist enjoys being in the company of other nudists in a manner that doesn't focus on sexuality.

I would not consider swingers as a subset of social nudists, because for them the focus is on sexuality. This isn't to say that social nudists are asexual, but social nudists keep their sexual lives separate from social interaction, just as clothed people do in social environments.

There are nudist resorts and there are swinger resorts. Swingers behave like nudists. They hide their real interests behind nudist behaviour. Cap dAgde which is a swinger resort, is even called naturist village. Completely bullshit. But this is how they behave.

Marcus, I completely agree with you.

Swingers cant be swingers and nudists. Its a completely different lifestyle, different mindset and different social contract.

Yes, a swinger can visit a nude beach or nudist resort, but just like the tiger, they cant change their stripes. They dont stop being swingers at a textile resort so why would that change at a nudist resort?

Im saddened at whats happened at Cap dAgde it used to be the prime destination of nudists from all over the world, and would be our bucket list resort, but from first hand descriptions from fellow nudist over the years its not now even considered as a real option anymore.

That's why we asked you about Charco del Palo. Either that or Vera Playa (or both!) will be our bucket list destination instead.

We have looked at Vera Playa a number of times but decided to wait until we have both retired and have more time. Still seeing Vlogs where people are confused as to which parts are nudist and which arent.

Thats not a problem in Charco, as long as you dont mind the remoteness and the need for a hire car then its perfect.

From the US, flights will be expensive but accommodations are cheaper than St. Martin so it only makes sense if we can go for 2+ weeks. Hopefully they both stay MONOLITHIC until we have a chance to visit. And yes, we do realize there is a swinger's club in Vera Playa (in the nude zone even!) but they are upfront in stating what they are.

Exactly how many times have you encountered people engaged in sexual behavior openly, in public at a nudist or clothing optional resort? My wife and I have never encountered that - not in California, not in Colorado, not in England, not in Germany, not in Japan. If that is part of the experience at a venue most would say that is a swingers resort, not a nudist resort. So what would be a sexual nudist? Somebody that goes to a nudist resort, socializes with others, and may engage in sexual activity in the privacy of their room with others they have met. This could happen at an AANR resort, at a Marriott Resort or a Vegas Hotel Casino. You referenced the word respect, I would use the word "consent". Did people present consent to see your naked body? Did those present consent to see your sexual behavior? So somewhere on the scale between nudists and swingers are sexual nudists. Live and let live.

I've been a social nudist for many moons; and along the way encountered nudists that eventually revealed themselves as "lifestylers" - just through casual conversation.  And we would have never known; as their behavior was "strictly nudist."

I personally don't judge what people do outside of the resort.  It's their behavior at the resort that counts.  If they're respectful towards me, my wife, and everyone else (which has always been the case), I don't care if they have "orgies in their backyard."  That's their business.

Naturist traveler, why are you afraid to use the word swinger to describe swingers?

Why have you invented sexual nudist?

The swingers that you imagine are having sex in private in a Vegas hotel room, you don’t describe them as sexual textiles, because that would just be ridiculous, wouldn’t it?

Like Nudony, we couldn’t care less what what people do in private, it’s not of our business. They can enjoy their choices as long as they respect those of others.

Also, we have encountered many perfectly nice and respectful couples over the years who’ve came out as swingers. They never referred to themselves as sexual nudist.

And once they did come out, we and others stopped looking at them as nudist, but as swingers. It didn’t change how we treated the, they were just known as, the swingers.

Swinging, to me, isn't a subset of nudism unless nude violinists are a subset of nudism and nude auto mechanics are a subset of nudism and nude poets are a subset of nudism, and so on. I will certainly concede that there are nudists who are also swingers, just as there are nudists who are also poets or auto mechanics or violinists. These are all things that people are going to be doing whether they're clothed or not.

You can’t be a swinger and a nudist, in the same way a fox can’t be a fish. A fox might swim in the river but it’s still a fox.

    Our view is this.

There are swinger/nudist resorts. Essentially sex/swinging is the path to their nudism. Someone can be a nudist (or at least love to be nude as often as possible - not sure if that meets the "official" designation of nudist) but drawn to nudism for the sexual aspects of it. That is certainly how my wife and I were drawn to being nude as much as possible and living in a place that lets us be nude with others whether we are interested in sex with them at that time or even at all. The two things exist in us. So part of the time we are social nudists by your definition and part of the time we are private (I prefer the term sexual) nudists.

But you can be a swinging nudist, I believe. As I said earlier, I know there are people who come to nudism via the sexual allure. I know that doesn't fit the purist definition of nudism. However, we consider ourselves nudists now and we arrived here via visiting a swinger's resort that focused on naked outdoor fun like the pool, games, drinks and socialization. Now we prefer to be nude as much as possible for even every day tasks like cleaning, yardwork, watching TV, etc. Things that are clearly not sexual, much less swinging related.

We are certainly respectful of the purists and when we go to nude venues, we refrain from any PDAs, much less overt sexual activity. The two can coexist. But I understand the frustration of the purists when you have swingers who are rude and disrespectful of a nudist venue's rules or those that might bring open sex to a place like a nude beach and thus risk the place being shut down. There's no excuse for that.

I thought my fox analog was quite good but, maybe not good enough.

I’m not a purist, I just like the definitions of words.

Nudists and swingers do co exist, and mostly without issue. No you can’t be a swinging nudist, the words mean different things, let me explain.

We are nudists, when we go to work, the pub, a restaurant, meet friends, we might be dressed but we are still nudists. We can’t be nude all the time.

When swingers, go to work, the pub, a restaurant, meet friends, they might not be having group sex all the time but they are still swingers.

When swingers go to a nudist venue they don’t stop being swingers.

Why would you want to be known as anything else. You chose the swinging  lifestyle.

So the conversation here is, sexual liaisons at nudist venues is inappropriate? I'll admit I haven't read all the messages. Isn't that true of any part of life?

People can't be Swingers and nudists? In the same moment? Which I'd agree, or generally?

I have experiences swinging but I am first an foremost a nudist, there are times and a places to be both. Does having had swinging experiences disqualify me from being a nudist?

People meet and are attracted to others in all walks of life. When they are it inevitably becomes sexual. If couples like to play with other couples sexually.. so what? They might meet at a social nudist venue or down the pub. Or online on sites like here. I really don't see the problem.

I do read entire posts before commenting. I read your tread about cursing for gay sexy on a nudist beach and how you were perfectly fine with that. Is that because you are a nudist first and foremost?
