Blind Creek Beach FL is official now.

ST. LUCIE COUNTY Blind Creek Beach is officially the countys first clothing-optional beach. In a 4-1 vote Tuesday, the County Commission officially designated 36 acres of beach within the 408-acre park clothing optional. The park is on both sides of south State Road A1A between Frederick Douglass Beach park and the St. Lucie Nuclear Power Plant.

Its a milestone, said Nelson Jones, president of Treasure Coast Naturist, a group whose members have been using the beach as a clothing-optional venue for more than 20 years. The countys action has no impact on how the public uses the beach, officials said. Like other St. Lucie County beaches, it has reopened after a coronavirus closing, and visitors are asked to follow social-distancing guidelines and nude-beach etiquette: no staring or taking anyone's photo without permission.

The naturist group has been placing signs alerting the public they are moving into clothing-optional section of the beach. Tuesdays action means the county now is responsible for installing and maintaining signs notifying the public of the nude beach, and for paying for restrooms. The beach now is eligible to have lifeguards. The property is owned by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and managed by St. Lucie County.

The naturist group said it would continue contributing money for the use of portable toilets. The group has paid $600 a month to have portable toilets in the parking lot at the beach.

I dont really know if restrooms are needed out there because we dont want people to linger, Jones said. With a portable toilet, people just do their business and get out.

County Commissioner Frannie Hutchinson voted against the official designation, citing a lack of information regarding a legal description of the boundaries and the cost of improvements.

Visit Florida, the states official tourism arm, mentions and promotes the beach as clothing-optional at its visitor center. So do TripAdvisor, Yelp and a French publication Le Courrier.

Being naked at Blind Creek Beach is legal, according to the Sheriffs Office. It creates problems only if if a visitor commits a lewd act.

This is awesome. It is the first new official beach I have heard of in quite some time.

Yep!. Once the weather get chilly here again (Oct/Nov-ish), I will plan a trip down that way to look at houses. I sense Illinois is soon to become un-livable. Florida is one of the few warm sunny places I can keep my favorable tax exempt status on just about all of my retirement income, and property taxes are about half of what they are here. Sales tax is about the same for my locality. Year round sunning, here I come.

WOW! So good to hear that! I go to Blind Creek as often as I can. I never had a problem there with officials but glad to hear it is legally sanctioned now. Thanks for the update!
