What does "like minded" mean to you?

Return to Discussions

This topic has been posted before on the Forum but I thought I try and get some replies and feedback from the elder statesmen/women nudists in this group. I

I often look over member's profiles and see this stated by so many people on TN "Like to meet "like minded people". Most times, their profiles are so minimally filled out, how do you know if you're like minded? Does "like minded" solely mean, liberal enough to swing, swap pictures, exhibitionism, political affiliation? Sometimes I think that should be something on your profile because as you make friends and then find out you're so opposite on many other social views, makes you wonder if you truly would be friends at all in real life.

SO what does "like minded" mean to you?

We completely agree with you!! It is really hard to find someone "like-minded" when they give you no information...it's really kind of a joke. We don't usually take any of those members seriously unless they contact us and actually have a conversation...
We're very open and honest with who we are and the lifestyle we lead as most "true nudists" do. It's easy to see who is real and actually living the lifestyle so that's who we usually gravitate to! Thanks for the post, we've wondered the same thing.

That is a good question. I think normally if I see that it seems to be a code word for swinging, at least that is how I take it. I had to go look at our profile and see what it says. It's been so long since I had written it. I probably should pay more attention to the profiles. Lately I don't accept folks as friends unless we have chatted in the chatroom or via mail or some other way.

I enjoy being in the chat room and seeing how conversations go. It can be very interesting where some people take things.

Wow! Like minded is a very broad term. Take car enthusiasts. Its one thiing to say we all love cars but car lovers are divided by make, Chevy , dodge, jeep etc use off-road , race track , show car, old models , new models , and each of those categories have 5 to 6 sub categories. We all enjoy being nudists but like minded is to open for inturpitation. Really a group would need a lot more defining characteristics to find somewhat like minded members. Just my thoughts

thank you andy for provoking the discussion and for your accompanying thoughts.

I think that since we can only control our own profiles, we all need to see if we use the term.
if so, then there needs to be enough info in our profiles so that others have a decent idea about the areas of life that are most important to us.
if info is lacking, then it would be best to remove that phrase.

Okay Nat Jeeper and Tango

you've replied but didn't really answer the question, "what does like minded mean to YOU!"

Nat Jeeper; you brought up cars but to me, cars are an interest, that's really not being "like minded." Like minded delves deeper into thought than cars. If that's all someone has to offer and says their "like minded," I think they are somewhat narrow minded and need to broaden their thoughts.

Tango; not sure if you were speaking generally or to me but no where in my profile do I use, "like minded," because it's actually a phrase I don't use but on rare occasion and only speaking of someone that is like minded with us on many topics, issues, situations. But still would like to know what like minded means to you.

hi andy,
nope wasn't referring to you. just making a general statement - that if folks use the term, then they should be clear about what they mean.
I don't use the term.

but, as you say - it seems to mean "seeking folks who have the same interests" as the one who uses the term their profile.

'Like-minded' means like what everyone above has said!!!

A good topic for discussion Andy, potentially provocative! But, in good ways i.e stimulating thoughts and engagement.

I've also seen many profiles with very little information on them, yet they have 'like-minded' included in the < 50 characters they've typed in total! So, like-minded = vague in those cases.

Context is the key in defining the meaning of the phrase, without a lot of context, its meaningless. On TN its as if a load of non-nudists have trawled through a number of TN profiles when they've signed up to the site, seen that phrase used regularly and decided its a key word that will help our personal algorithms find like-minded people.

I do use the phrase, not just in a nudist context, but when I have some very good clues as to what the other minds involved think about the matter(s) under discussion. If I use it in a discussion about nudism and/or nudists it will probably mean others who enjoy social nudism wherever and whenever possible. People who accept each other for who they are in their natural state. Beyond basic descriptions; 'like-minded' can get confusing, readers of this thread are very unlikely to have identical views on everything, unless they are clones. Yet there have so far been some vague responses to the threads title, as Andy has already pointed out, ignoring the question that requests what 'you' think it means. Other responses have been more on the nail.

RE:What does "like minded" mean to you?

To me, on TN, like minded means that you enjoy social nudity. I have not associated the term with swigging at all but then as a single male (at least as far as TN is concerned) I have not been propositioned like the real couples and females have.

Our social nudity experiences have been limited and have not to this point had any discussion on religion or politics but only of plutonic things like the weather or music.

I came to TN shortly after our first social nudity experience searching for others that like being nude around others. I felt like I was the only one that had that mindset until I joined here amoungnst other that also enjoyed nudisum or likeminded.

I like what keeper said except he didnt mention Fords. TN caterers to all different likes and dislikes. There are groups that cover every interest under the sun and if there isnt one you like or can become a member of one that already exist, you can create your own further defining those that think, believe or have similar interest as you.

As grumpy stated you are not going to find anyone that has all your exact same beliefs, my wife and I disagree on many things but we overlook those things for the most part because the things we do agree on out way the rest and we have built our life around them.

We dont really have any nudist friends yet but Im sure once we do we will learn what topics to stay away from just like with our textile friends so that we can remain friendly.

RE:What does "like minded" mean to you?

I agree Mcdcvs!
To me, "Like Minded" means you believe in living a nudist lifestyle.
If you have other variations such as swinging, gay or whatever, makes no difference to me. To each his/her own.
"Like minded" here is the common nudist mindset. I don't read anything into it.
If I were to be solicited by someone to take "like minded" to a different level, I'd just respectfully decline. Agree to disagree! It doesn't mean you can't be friends unless they infringe on or offend you personally. I have friends from all walks of life. Some may have different beliefs, most do on some level, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy the common ground and respect the individuals for being of a different mindset in other areas.
Variety is the spice of life ! Can make for interesting conversation sometimes. Just don't try to recruit me if I'm not interested.
It's all about respect for the individual. If there's no respect, move on! No need to be disrespectful!

It's not just leading the nudist lifestyle. I know many nudists who live it in different ways - at different levels. Some are only nude on holiday whereas others are nude at home too, as close to 24/7 as they can. Also some are reserved, doing all they can to avoid letting textiles around them find out about their nudity, whilst others are more daring, more open (telling everyone, driving and hiking nude or doing the WNBR for example). So being a like-minded nudist is living the lifestyle in the same way as myself - the same level of reserve or open-ness or daring. And there is also the possible sexual aspect - another dimension.

You rightly say variety is the spice of life, including some variations which suit some whilst other variations suit others.
