...who can possibly look over the fence? I've seen a lot of topics but the most recent one close is about "...how close are your neighbors..." almost a year ago. Sometimes I see neighbors' heads but if they are closer to the fence they do not need any help to get the full picture. I am building my pool and plan even more time outside in the nude. My friends will learn that pool and spa area is clothing optional...not to say nude for me. My 21-yo son is OK, my GF is naked with me too. How do you deal with neighbors, do you care? Did you tell them what to expect when they sneak over?

Feb 4, 2020I got tired of sneeking around my own yard so I brought it up to them one day in a text ,it took a little bit to get back to me but they said it's your yard it would not bother us . Have to say it was a little different first time my neighbors wife saw me she waved and said hi . That was 3 years ago

Feb 5, 2020my backyard is pretty private on both sides with trees and growth problem is the very back yard as my house sits up and the yard slants down , my neighbors of 20+ years recently move the wife no doubt seen me numerous times nude don't think she really approved but accepted it now new neighbors I haven't met but if the look up from their kitchen or back porch can pretty much see me when i'm nude in the laundry room still not sure how I will decide on going nude in my backyard it's still cool here so waiting for spring and warm weather to play it by ear.

I'm not sure who can look over my fence...I'm about 25% finished and the low part is about 78" and I'm not sure how high the high part will end up. I'm using 120" ( I do have a few 144") 4X4 buried 30" inches in the ground so about 90" or so will be the max on any one level. It is on a hill so it varies. Between the distance & the few trees...I should be safe...or that's my plan.

Feb 5, 2020My house is on a 2 1/2 acre lot and is set back farther than the house on each side. My backyard is private on the left and in the back with palmettos trees and wetlands. On the right side my neighbors can see me if they really try and if they are back tending to their horses so I really don't worry about it too much. Since my bushes have filled in around the driveway by the garage I can also be out there without being seen pretty much.

Apr 4, 2020When I wanted to repair my fence, a contractor told me I couldn't go over 6 feet because the fire department needed to be able to get over it. I still wanted to go higher than 6 feet so I talked with my neighbors about replacing the sagging top piece with one 6" higher. All agreed to it. Even though the top was now over 7', I reasoned that the fire dept could tear of the top 18 inches easily with their tools.
After completion, one, an elderly Asian man , got his step ladder and ostensibly checked his garage roof while I was doing some gardenuding. My wife noticed him through the window and advised me. Good laugh. Never noticed him again.

Apr 10, 2020I have a 6' fence and added 2' of lattice on top in parts of the yard. On the east side of me it's only the 6'. I told my neighbor who's 76, hey just in case you pop your head over the fence to ask me something, just so you know, I'm usually nude in the backyard he was like OK

Apr 10, 2020I do two things: (1) Screen my garden as well as I can. This cuts out the view from four of them and reduces it from the other three. And (2) I tell all of them I'm a naturist and will be naked in my garden.

Apr 12, 2020We are somewhat fortunate in that we are in the country with plenty of woods. Facing our house from the road, there are woods to the left, rear and right of our house. The only real problem is that we have neighbors across the road to the left and right of us and their property is a higher elevation than our lot. Therefore, they can look down into our yard and see us if we venture out from directly behind our house. I've planted some hybrid willow trees along the entire front yard about 10 yards away from the road with the hope of them growing fast and creating a privacy fence. Another problem I have is that the woods are thin directly behind and to the right of our house. On the other side of the woods behind us is a field so we are mindful of the farmers. On the other side of the woods to our right about 175 yards away is one of my nosey relatives and her house is also a higher elevation than ours. I think she has seen me naked before but she hasn't said anything. For about a year, the house across the street was vacant so I would frequently wash our vehicles or do other things in our driveway or on that side of the house. One day as I walked to the mailbox and ducked behind trees as vehicles approached, she came from one direction as another vehicle came from the opposite direction. I didn't hear her car until she was right in front of the house. I'm pretty sure she saw me because she looks the house and yard over every time she passes and can tell me later what she saw. She didn't say a word this time! LOL

I'm with you on living in the woods, however....I was burning trash (nude) in the yard when I looked up and there was a truck stopped in the road. It looked like a 4 wheel drive and was somewhat high...he had stopped in a spot where the combination of his height and more thin trees could possibly make me visible. He was about 100' away....I don't know if he saw me or not. Today, we're expecting rain and I'm going to fertilize the woods out there...we'll see....or maybe...not see in the future.

Jun 8, 2020When we first bought this house 5 years ago, we wouldn't [em]think[/em] of going outside nude, even on the relatively private back patio (surrounded on all sides of the back yard with 6' privacy fence, and a lot of mature trees here & there...). We were new here and didn't know what the neighbors could & couldn't see, if they were cool or not...
We've been enjoying "naked coffee" on the secluded back patio pretty much every weekend morning, but now we've been getting more and more bold and I usually fill the bird feeders and the hummingbird feeders in the nude (with shoes on, but nothing else).
The "Worldwide Naked Gardening Day" back in May really helped. She did [em]a lot[/em] more gardening-related work nude in the back yard than I ever even expected! (Although she is the green thumb and loves tinkering with her plants and the yard a lot, so it kind of fit in to her interests already.) I haven't done much other work out in the back yard during the day where I'd be out in the middle of the yard for any longer than a few minutes.
We recently positioned a hammock on one side of the yard near our neighbor's shed and it's WONDERFUL. Since I'm working from home I'll usually take my lunch out there and eat it while I'm sunbathing on the hammock. I always regret having to go back into the house! One afternoon last week I finished work early and when my wife arrived at home I was nude on the hammock just relaxing. As soon as she walked out into the yard and smiled at finding me naked, my neighbor came outside and walked down the driveway towards his shed, but he never even looked over the privacy fence or saw me, or acknowledged my wife, so... My wife had a look on her face like a kid who got caught with his hand in the cookie jar, but I think that it helped rather than hurt her opinion of being nude in the back yard since the neighbor never even noticed. She'll lay out nude in the hammock for a little while every now & then, but she's a little more shy and reluctant than I am. I will get her to say "Yeah, I enjoyed it" afterwards, but it's rarely without a little encouragement from me before she'll head out to the hammock and take her clothes off. Who knows? Maybe someday soon she'll make the walk out to the hammock already nude! :)

Jul 14, 2020Neighbor 2 houses away has been cutting our mutual next door neighbor's grass as he is 80+ and not up to doing it any more.
Today he accidentally cut my pool return line that runs along the fence. He said he would fix it later in the day.
Since he is well over 6' tall, I told him to let me know when he was going to do it since I only wear a swimsuit when we have company.
He replied that if he had a pool and fence like mine, he wouldn't wear one either.ReactReply - MEMemberNov 9, 2020
We only have neighbours on three sides.
On our right they can't see us unless they stick their heads out of their sky lights. As these sky lights were installed without planning permission that would be an interesting conversation.
Over the back, they can only see us from one bedroom window and throughout the summer I have never seen anyone stood there.
To our left they can only see into our garden if they stand close to the fence. Unfortunately, recently they did just that. While it was obvious he didn't approve, nothing has come of it

Your neighbor on the left reminded me of a joke that I heard. A woman called the police and complained that her male neighbor was swimming and sunning nude in his yard. The police came, saw a high privacy fence around the neighbor's yard and asked how she knew it. She replied that when she stood on her picnic table she could see everything.ReactReply - OL
Nov 9, 2020This still works
I do two things: (1) Screen my garden as well as I can. This cuts out the view from four of them and reduces it from the other three. And (2) I tell all of them I'm a naturist and will be naked in my garden.
A new neighbor asked to reduce the height of my trees close to his fence line to let in more light. I told him I'll be naked in my garden but he could reduce them to a certain height. We also replaced the fence between the gardens with one 6ft (1.8m) high and close boarded. He was more than happy with both these arrangements. My privacy is secured.ReactReply - MEMemberNov 10, 2020
A woman called the police and complained that her male neighbor was swimming and sunning nude in his yard. A woman I used to work with had naturists next door who would use their garden which she didn't like because they were old and fat. Presumably if they were young and fit she would have been okay. However, she could only see them if she looked sideways our of her bedroom window. Even closer to your joke was a case last year. In the UK it is legal to be naked in public, but it becomes illegal if you cause "alarm or distress". One woman reported a man for working in his garden naked claiming to be alarmed and distressed, However, when the case went to court the judge was told that she actually went back for a second look to make sure she had seen what she thought. The judge criticised the woman as she obviously wasn't alarmed or distressedReactReply

Many / most of us have neighbours. I've found that through my work people who respect each others privacy tend to get on the best. Plant out plenty of screening, or build a higher fence, but don't impose on them and things will generally be fine.

I *really* like this direct approach. Well done! Just for the record, we live in the country but the front of the house is in full view of the road. I just have to remember not to walk around to the front without anything on ;)ReactReply - SU
Dec 7, 2020Fencing also differs region to region.
Where I am in Victoria, Australia, 6' pailing fences are standard, except when they get replaced and everyone chooses to take the option of a 7' replacement.
My old work colleague once invited me to dinner while he was working in Detroit and living in the suburbs to the west (Plymouth, I think). There, everyone had 2' wire fences (we refer to it as Cyclone mesh in Australia) so there was a view across multiple back gardens and any privacy would be minimal without adding screening and perhaps the neighbours would object to the loss of 'borrowed landscape'. We enjoyed a meal in the garden anyway as it was a beautiful evening for it, although the backyard openness did feel unusual to me. I don't recall asking, despite his wife being one who was possibly inclined to take advantage of the sunshine.

Fencing rules may differ from region to region & State to State but plant screening vegetation and be discrete until it grows (the vegetation that is). Have a few options for where you can sit / lie down away from lines of sight. Also as others suggest, maybe mention it with neighbours that you may sometimes venture nude in your yard to put out washing or whatever, test the waters so to speak.

Dec 16, 2020Great comment! Im lucky enough to to have a block wall around my property with only one neighbor who could care less about what I do in my yard. Fences (and walls) make great neighbors!

My biggest blunder was not putting up an 8' fence instead of a 6' one in retrospect.
ReactReply - MEMemberDec 17, 2020
My biggest blunder was not putting up an 8' fence instead of a 6' one in retrospect.
I agree with that one. I inherited this garden and it's perimeters when I moved in with my now wife. All around is a 7ft wall plus trees. On once side the neighbour cut down his trees, so I'm now of the opinion that if he can see in, it's his fault. Between us and our other neighbour, there is a 6ft fence for a short length. Unfortunately his side is higher so he can see over. This is how come, on the last day of summer this year he was able to see me packing up the summer house naked. His face screamed that he did not approve but as we don't talk, and he hasn't said or done anything, I'm happy.ReactReply

Dec 17, 2020We had a real ass**** for a neighbor back in MN. Our neighbor was a real perv too. Our bedroom was on his side of the yard and I would see him lurking down into our bedroom all the time (he had a 2 story home) . Not to mention that he would stand on his deck and look into our spa room. Our home sat on a pond and all the water would run down to it. Along with that his driveway would dump tons of water between our home and on to my yard. I had asked him if we could fix the problem. He said it was my problem not his. I ask him if I could put up a nice wood fence. That way the water would run down on his side and not on my side of the yard. He said no he did not want a fence. Since we needed his approval to put it up. That was just another problem with him. So after years of picking up my rocks and putting them back in place after every rain storm. I told my wife that, that is it. I put up a 3 mound on myside of the yard. And placed 15 arborvitaes on top of it. The arborvitaes would get a height of 4060' and a spread of 1015' at maturity. Then add the 3 mound he would not be able to lurk into our bedroom window along with standing on his deck and look into our spa room. I also told my wife that if this works I will continue the mound and arborvitaes all the way to the front of the property line. We did not need his approval to put up the arborvitaes so he could not say anything.
Now living in MN for some 51 years before moving down to NV. I know what snow fences are and have used them out in the country. So putting them all the way to the front property line and his house was to our northwest. When those trees get bigger it will be a great wind block and the snow will pile up on his side and driveway big time.
The Arborvitaes did work and he could not see into our house anymore and the 3 mound kept the water on his side. We moved to NV before I could get the plants up to the front property line.
