Separating social nudity from sexual nudity

Had a home a few years ago where I was a full-time nudist in my house & backyard. Over the years, I rented a room to different housemates. Some were nudists, some not. I made it clear in the beginning that I would ALWAYS be nude, even when they would invite guests to come over. Not once did I ever have a problem with a clothed person concerning my nudity. Thats because its all about how I behaved. Im so comfortable with my naked body, and doing normal, everyday things, that my conduct put (clothed) people at ease. I was very sexual when I lived there, but I kept a hard line between that and my everyday nudity. If it wasnt a sexual situation, then I didnt act like it, nor ever got aroused. I even demonstrated a sex toy for a clothed, mixed group, at their request. It would normally be used when a man had an erection, but since it wasnt a sexual situation, I didnt have one. I told many people that social nudity and sexual behavior are completely separate things. I also imparted this adage:
Social nudity is not about SEEING or being SEEN.
Its about BEING nude.
Clothing was constructed to cover our skin for sexual denial. We, and I mean me, as a nudist are shedding that archaic concept and embrace the totality of who I am as well as all of those around me, and especially those I would call my friends. That being said, we all should still be respectful of others. .
While I certainly agree that for a long time, sexual denial has been a significant reason for people wearing clothing, some anthropologists believe that the original reason for clothing was a practical one. People started migrating further from the equator during a time of global cooling and they needed some sort of cover to keep warm. Perhaps the current combination of global warming and many people moving closer to the equator (at least in theUS) will help people abandon clothing or at least be more tolerant of those who do.

Where is the evidence for the idea that clothing was created for sexual denial. That a new one.

Guess that is the world we live in now.

The more clothes you had on, the richer you were (or appeared to be to your neighbors). Now you have to have some wealth to join clubs or go to resorts where you can shed the clothes. At the core of this "debate" is that many though not all have come to equate any form of nudity including sexual nudity as nudism. That is particularly though not exclusively the case in U.S. Europeans are more likely to see the practice of social nudity as naturism and a practice that should be available to everyone including families.

Injecting sexual nudity into nudism precludes families with children and has given ammunition to the segment of the U.S. population that wants to remove nudism from the social landscape all together. None of that really matters to the sexual libertines who simply use nudism a practice that is non sexual for the sexual proclivities.

True, but if you live near a clothing optional beach you have a free or low cost option.
At the core of this "debate" ...
Very well said. As an American having lived in Europe for many years and having my first social nudity experience there, there is an important distinction betwene being naked and having sex. Too often in the US, including at nudist clubs and nude beaches, a sexual element is introduced, either willingly (in the case of resorts) or by sexual predators (as with beaches). This injection of sexual pursuits into social nudity is, I believe, a major reason why there is a US stigma against nudity. This is never the case in Europe. Germany is a good example, where almost every public pool has a section set aside for the cism is not an issue.lothes-free to enjoy and libertinism is not an issue.

IMO part of that is due to the fact that the Europeans maintained the ethical and philosophical principles of naturism while Americans opted for a primarily recreational view of social nudity focused mainly on a state of undress described as nudism. Brian Hoffman examines this in his book Naked. As does Maurice Parmelee in Nudism in Modern Life. Unfortunately as a society we dont read much any more and get our perspectives from the internet.

I think I derive the joy of being seen naked and also see people of all shapes and sizes in nude.

I have a huge respect who can distinguish social nudity from sexual nudity.

    Nudity not always means sexuality

I couldn't agree more. Since i am from India, nudism is considered taboo. It's really hard to find nudist friends here and even if people are involved in nudism, they feel shy is accepting that in public. I understand your thinking of being seen and spending some memorable time with other nudists. I actually want to live this lifestyle 24x7.

On a thread about separating social nudity and sexual nudity there are always those who think nudism is all about them and their erection.

    Never fails.
Wearing clothes are a choice. Nudity, as you have mentioned is not a choice. It is who we are. Biological phenomena are not designed to shock anyone. People mistakenly think that when a nudist guy is having an erection, it is about THEM.
We go on nude cruises where there are literally thousands of nudists walking around the ship and some of the private island stops and yet no erections. We go to large social nudist events at the big resorts where there are literally hundreds of nudists walking around grounds and yet no erections... almost like social nudist men don't get erections at inappropriate times in inappropriate locations.

Nudity = nakedness or not being clothed. Nudism despite what many think on this site and else involves a specific philosophy of social interaction in nonsexual contexts, that respects others and moderates the gaze and also includes social nudity.
What is the difference?
Taking a crap and peeing are biological functions as well but doing them in a public space where it is not designated is shocking. Your metaphor needs work. You are on point with this but the problem is most of the people pushing the erection acceptance theory like the commenter you replied to have not had the genuine nudist experiences you describe. They use nudism to justify their own interest and sexual proclivities, and then project this self interest on those who are trying to protect what little opportunities for non sexual social nudism we have left. Of course it is about US. Those of use who want to practice nonsexual social nudism, are losing that opportunity because people who are only into nudity as a precursor to sex are reinforcing the stigma that already exists and making it hard to just be clothes free without have to worry about someone pursuing cheap thrills at our cost. Nudists are prudes we just have enough emotional and psychological maturity to control our bodies, behavior and gaze. Something that cannot be said for many of the Internet nudity proponents. Ive never seen a guy on a beach with an erection either, not saying that it never happens, but with the amount of made up nonsense you post, its difficult to believe a word.

When I go to Gunnison, I leave the car wearing short shorts or a swim brief but I take it off as soon as I am out of sight of the road and remain nude until I get back to the same point when leaving. Actually he and his girlfriend or wife were running toward the dunes when I saw them.
