It's not inappropriate in public while in clothes, because nobody is likely to see it, unless they're really looking for telltale bulges. "Flashers" are another subject entirely, as are other exhibitionists. (And the law is pretty clear that, for male flashers, it doesn't matter whether they're erect or not. Same crime. Same punishment.)

I agree. But you are old enough to see how society has been changing over the years. The ME first screw you crowd is taking over, and gaining in numbers. Degenerates seem to be taking over. Except on over the air TV the prudes have that, blurring out excess cleavage, side boob and even clothed poky nips, that were no big deal 10-15 years ago.

Somewhere on TN I read, that to post a picture of a standing male, the penis needs to be below 9:00. Or for a laying down shot it needs to be laying against the body

In 20 years Ive never noticed an erection at a beach or resort as people generally are socially capable of good behaviour.
Im not saying it doesnt happen as I have heard stories about creepy guys getting chased off the beach.
I think thats the general opinion, if I was to see a guy with a hard on my first thought would be, whos that creepy old dude, people with children might hold another opinion.

We have visited America but never as naturists so weve never encountered your free boner society. In Europe we are naked to relax in the sun, swim, meet friends. Non of these activities require a hard on so we dont get them.

It's a real thing, Stevie. It's just "underground" and flies under the radar of established naturist clubs and resorts. Even a lot of American naturists haven't heard of it. But then, maybe people in more nudist-tolerant cultures, here and abroad, don't feel the need for clubs; they just practice social nudism as a matter of course. If you have a pool, you swim naked. If your friends come over, they swim naked, too. Hot tubs are clothing-optional more often than not. Once in a while, you make a "road trip" out of it and maybe a dozen people show up at a swimming hole or a river or a hot spring where they can do their thing. (I think there's more of these road trips on the East Coast than the West Coast, because the forests are denser and the rivers more plentiful there. I sure haven't run into any here so far, but then again, I've only started looking.)
Jehoram calls it "New School" but I don't think its participants don't call it anything but simply socializing nude. I'll bet there are lots of people in the UK who do this, too. I know that it's a thing in Scandinavian countries, because I've met some.
(And, yes, boners come up once in a while, but as Jehoram points out, it's not considered a big deal. You ignore it, it goes away eventually. No harm, no foul.)
